The hypothesis of the present article is that metaphor in the mystical poetry of great poets such as Rumi and Hafez has the characteristic of "reprocessing".. Therefore, the estimation of meaning in its images is without precedent and often intuitive. While metaphor in the period of return functions as an “icon image”; therefore, it has a narrative-persuasive nature, and since its structure lacks a new plot, it cannot be “paragon” and reach a level of interpretation and association. As a result; although metaphor in the poetry of this period takes on a mystical and Sufi gesture, it is devoid of establishing a connection between language and thought, and a creative stylistic touch in the image. جستار حاضر می‌کوشد با رویکردی توصیفی- تحلیلی، و با کاربست رهیافت‌های فلسفی مربوط به استعاره و زبان شعر؛ ضمن معرفی دیوان آقا محمدتقی اصفهانی، متخلص به «عارف»، و ارائة طرحی اجمالی از شعر دورة بازگشت، بوطیقای استعاره و بلاغت‌های تصویری آن را بررسی کند و نشان دهد ماهیت، ساختار و کارکرد استعاره چه تأثیری در خوانش شعر عرفانی دارد. فرضیة مقالة حاضر آن است که استعاره در شعر عرفانی شاعران بزرگی چون مولوی و حافظ برخوردار از خصلت «بازعمل‌آوری» است. از همین رو، برآورد معنا در تصاویر آن بدون مصداق و غالباً شهودی است. در حالی که استعاره در دورة بازگشت به منزلة یک «عکس آیکون» عمل می‌کند؛ از همین رو، ماهیت روایی- اقناعی دارد، و چون ساختارش فاقد پیرنگ تازه است، نمی‌تواند «پیرابین» باشد و به سطحی از تفسیر و تداعی راه یابد. در نتیجه؛ استعاره در شعر این دوره هرچند ژست عارفانه و صوفیانه به خود می‌گیرد، از برقراری سودا میان زبان و اندیشه، و ضرب اسلوبی آفرینش‌گرانه در تصویر خالی است.
