This article analyzes the narrative structure of Soda’ by Soudabeh Fazaeli, employing Jaap Lintvelt’s typology of narrative as its theoretical framework. Given the absence of narratological studies on Fazaeli’s work and the need to examine innovative narrative structures in contemporary Persian literature, the central question of this study is how the four dimensions of narrative (perceptual-psychological, temporal, spatial, and verbal) are manifested in the novel’s non-linear structure. The analysis is based on micro-structural levels of the text, including focalization, temporal order, narrative space, and the narrator’s discourse. The findings reveal that the dominant narrative type is the homodiegetic metanarrative: a first-person narrator with an inward, consciousness-centered perspective who recounts fragmented, psychotic experiences. At the same time, the analysis of temporal shifts, narrative modes, and spatial variability demonstrates that the novel also incorporates features of the actantial narrative, resulting in a hybrid structure. Discursive elements such as self-reflexivity, narrative disruption, intradiegetic address, and suspense further transform the narrative beyond the mere representation of action, turning it into a reflection of the narrator’s linguistic and mental awareness. Soda’ can thus be regarded as a prominent example of hybrid narrative in contemporary Persian fiction, one that destabilizes the boundaries between metanarrative and actantial modes.
