The present article attempts to examine the poetics of metaphor and its visual rhetorics, using a descriptive-analytical approach and applying philosophical approaches related to metaphor and poetic language, while introducing the Divan of Agha Mohammad Taghi Isfahani, pen name "Arif", and presenting a brief outline of the poetry of the period of return, and to show what effect the nature, structure, and function of metaphor have on the reading of mystical poetry. The hypothesis of the present article is that metaphor in the mystical poetry of great poets such as Rumi and Hafez has the characteristic of "reprocessing".. Therefore, the estimation of meaning in its images is without precedent and often intuitive. While metaphor in the period of return functions as an “icon image”; therefore, it has a narrative-persuasive nature, and since its structure lacks a new plot, it cannot be “paragon” and reach a level of interpretation and association. As a result; although metaphor in the poetry of this period takes on a mystical and Sufi gesture, it is devoid of establishing a connection between language and thought, and a creative stylistic touch in the image.
