Cognitive poetics and image schema theory have provided new perspectives for understanding the hidden structure of imagination in contemporary poetry. Employing a descriptive-analytical method and based on the “embodied cognition” approach, the present research investigates the architecture of imagination in the Ghazals of Seyed Karim Amiri Firuzkuhi. The main question is how the poet’s lived experience, including chronic physical suffering and severe spatial isolation, has shaped his perceptual geometry and complex imagery within the context of the Indian style (Sabk-e Hindi). The research findings indicate that Firuzkuhi’s obscure metaphors are not merely imitative rhetorical devices, but rather cognitive reflections of his psychological distress and existential erosion. These experiences are reflected in two main categories: “schemas related to space and location” (Containment, Path, Orientational, and Center-Periphery) and “schemas related to existence” (Force, Link, Cycle, and Part-Whole). The high frequency of concepts such as the cage, being crushed, vicious circles, and the reduction of existence to mere bones demonstrates that the poet’s ailing body and restricted world, acting as the perceptual source, have shaped the abstract concepts of his mind and objectified the structure of his despairing worldview
