Modern literary criticism emphasizes that understanding the relationships among texts and identifying intertextual connections are essential for interpreting meaning and uncovering the hidden values of literary works. When such relationships emerge across different linguistic and cultural contexts, they become a significant subject of inquiry within the field of comparative literature. In this regard, the present study examines the works of the Russian writer Faddei Bulgarin, whose narratives often revolve around themes such as justice, merit, law, conscience, compassion, and ethical governance within social relations. The emergence of these themes can be understood as a natural consequence of the influence of Eastern narrative traditions, particularly the literary legacy of Saadi, during a period of perceived spiritual and moral vacuum in Russian literature.
This influence is evident not only in thematic content but also in the application of specific literary forms and narrative structures. Adopting a comparative approach and a descriptive-analytical method, this study explores the dimensions of these intertextual relationships between Saadi and Bulgarin. The findings demonstrate that there exists a close connection between the two authors at both the thematic and formal levels. Didactic motifs, utopian perspectives, reflections on justice and ethics, as well as formal narrative elements such as characterization, the use of allegorical forms, and structured narrative settings in Bulgarin’s works can be interpreted as adaptations and inspirations derived from Saadi’s literary tradition
