Literary Sciences and Arts (1) is the first relatively coherent textbook introducing literary sciences at the upper-secondary level, and its scholarly accuracy and pedagogical soundness are crucial for the development of fundamental concepts in students. The present study aims to critically evaluate the content of this textbook from the perspectives of scientific accuracy and pedagogical efficacy across four domains: rhetoric, Persian prosody and rhyme, stylistics, and the history of Persian language and literature. This qualitative study is based on documentary research employing an analytical-comparative and critical approach. The unit of analysis encompasses every proposition, definition, classification, explanation, example, and textual evidence related to concepts of literary sciences; the data were analyzed through a systematic comparison of the textbook’s content with authoritative scholarly sources. The criteria for selecting reference sources included scholarly authority, academic credibility, citation value, direct relevance to the topic, and general acceptance among researchers in literary studies. Scientific accuracy, conceptual coherence, classification validity, appropriateness of evidence, and conformity with authoritative views—taking into account the multiplicity of expert perspectives—served as evaluation criteria. The identified issues, in order of frequency, fall into three categories: scientific errors, pedagogical shortcomings, and divergent specialized scholarly views. Scientific errors, accounting for the largest share, were predominantly concentrated in rhetoric and Persian prosody and rhyme; they manifested in defining and demarcating literary devices, identifying textual instances, formulating certain rules of scansion and syllabification, explaining phonetic value and rhyme elements, and distinguishing the concepts of meter, rhythm, and tone.
