Although Ahmadreza Ahmadi’s poetry relies heavily on simple, everyday vocabulary, it consistently resists direct interpretation. This study investigates how this resistance arises from the poem’s formal and structural organization, arguing that it reflects not the absence of meaning but the production of multilayered and suspended signification. The corpus comprises selected poems from the three-volume My Poems and The Footprints of Lovers Remain in the Snow. Using a descriptive-analytical approach, the study proceeds in three stages. The formalist analysis examines foregrounding through the refunctionalization of familiar words, archaic vocabulary, unconventional collocations, syntactic ellipsis, repetition, and lineation. The structuralist analysis reconstructs networks of repetition and binary oppositions involving signs such as death, the window, rain, the seasons, fruits, the house, and the alley. The deconstructive analysis explores how these oppositions are subsequently destabilized and rendered indeterminate. The findings show that Ahmadi’s poetic innovation depends less on lexical invention than on the refunctionalization of ordinary language, the juxtaposition of semantic fields, and the transfer of rhythm from prosodic meter to syntactic and visual organization. Although oppositions such as life/death, presence/absence, morning/night, and window/wall provide structural coherence, each term simultaneously absorbs features of its counterpart, preventing semantic closure. Moreover, the dialogues in the corpus do not produce Bakhtinian polyphony but remain within a predominantly lyrical monologue characterized by multilayered signification. Ahmadi’s distinctive style thus emerges from the tension between lexical simplicity and complex signifying relations, shifting meaning from explicit statement to the reader’s active interpretation.
